Upcoming HyperCAST: HQ for Nagios Users

On January 8, John Mark Walker will lead a HyperCAST on the subject of Nagios integration and using Hyperic HQ 3.2’s newfangled Nagios plugin. If you’re familiar with Nagios and are interested in both importing your Nagios configuration into HQ as well as getting some Nagios-like functionality out of HQ, you should sign up for this must-see HyperCAST.

Upcoming HyperCAST: VMware Management

If you’re like many others in data center operations, you likely have VMware running somewhere. With the VMware management HyperCAST, scheduled for January 22, Alex Ma will demonstrate how to monitor and manage your VMware deployments. And as a special bonus, Jonathan Bryce, Co-founder of Mosso, will demonstrate how he uses Hyperic HQ to manage Mosso’s VMware infrastructure.

HyperFORGE Plugin of the Month

Hyperic community member ‘leander’ has created an HQ plugin to monitor the hardware status of Dell systems, using Dell’s OpenManage and SNMP. The plugin is located on the HyperFORGE.
The plugin is functional, and it seems that leander would like to add more features. If you’d like to help, please visit the plugin page and lend a hand. For his efforts, we’re awarding leander a $250 for this month’s Plugin of the Month! Congrats, Leander!

The Hyperic Blog

It’s been an interesting month for blogging, with the Hyperic bloggers chiming in on the topics of the day. Javier points out that, in spite of its popularity, Open Source remains a poorly understood phenomenon, with some still confusing it for public domain.
Later, Javier recognized Jesse Robbins of the O’Reilly RADAR, who listed Hyperic HQ as a tool that made his new job easier. Javier noted that making life easier for IT operations was our job.
And finally, John Mark embraces and extends Matthew Aslett’s (analyst with The 451 Group) idea of Total Innovation Opportunity (TIO) with a post on how to capitalize on it vis-a-vis community development.
