Venture Investment, Open Source, and Hyperic

What a difference a year makes… Last year we were 5 guys with a killer product, a profitable business, and big ambitions. Today we’re 25 people with an even better product, a thriving community of users and contributors, hundreds of paying customers, and even bigger ambitions. I wish I could say all it took was a couple of trips down to Sand Hill Road, a bunch of cash, and good luck. Fortunately, things aren’t quite that easy. Venture money is part of fuel that drives small companies with big ideas to become big plays. It is not, however, a magic wand that guarantees success to the committed entrepreneur.
