Hyperic HQ and Gutsy Gibbon

It’s become quite a tradition these last couple of years - whenever we are about to “spring forward” or “fall behind” it can only mean one thing: it’s time for another Ubuntu release. Indeed, Ubuntu 7.10, aka “gutsy gibbon” was released last Friday, October 19. Good thing Hyperic HQ is pretty flexible about these things - here’s a screenshot of HQ running on gutsy:

And just in case the name is difficult to read…

Wii Smackdown… Mule asks for more ‘prep’ time

Well, we were expecting our good friends from MuleSource to show up tomorrow. As it turns out, they’ve asked for a postponement in order to accomodate the arrival of Dave’s tag-team partner Ross. Not sure how much Wii Tennis Ross is bringing to the fold, but we’ll be more than happy to give them more time to practice. In the meantime the teams from Jasper, Marketcetera, and others will also be given a bye week to polish their game.

Watch for an updated date and time on the evite.

See you next week sports fans.

Hows and Whys are the Who’s Who of Ops

I had a pretty fabulous week this week as I got to go to a meeting with some of the most sophisticated website operations teams in the world. I can’t name names, but I did ask one of them if I could write up his conversation at dinner last night. He said yes, so here goes.

Four Ops VPs were talking about their interviewing styles when looking to staff their Ops Development team or their NOC. One guy had a brilliant strategy. He separates them into two very black and white categories:

The Hows
