Why Are These Sysadmins Smiling?

February 7th, 2008 Stacey Schneider

I love my job. For those that don’t know me too well, I have the privilege of looking after all outbound activity here at Hyperic. In that capacity I get to interact with the community, customers, press and analysts. Sometimes all at once.

Thing is, I don’t get to see them that often - its mostly done over the telephone or email. This week though, I’ve been lucky.

First, I had a little chat with Brad Felmey from National Health Systems (and one of their affiliates Rx.com). You all know him as the #9 ranked community member on our forums. Brad’s been using HQ (and now HQ Enterprise!) for a long time now, and “posting his brains out” on our forums the whole time. Last summer I reached out to Brad on something, and he told me he couldn’t respond because he was too busy “riding his motorcycle to the Arctic circle”.

From Texas. It took 6 weeks.

Brad sent me a picture of his travels this week - he titles the photo “Why is this Sysadmin Smiling”

Brad Felmey

His answer is “Because Hyperic runs so well, he can go to the Artic Circle and not worry a bit”. Brad is the one on the right, so the next time he helps you out, you can out a face to the points you are awarding him!

It gets better though, another one of our customers did a really cool interview with Dian Schaffhauser of Campus Technology. Justin King works as the sole IT person for the Human Neuroimaging Laboratory at Baylor College of Medicine in the Department of Neuroscience in Houston, TX. Justin has been working with Hyperic for almost a year now. You have to read the full article as Dian does a fabulous job of illustrating all the gooey details of Justin’s futuristic lab. Dian also captured a nice picture of Justin with his HQ Dashboard up right against a rack of Dell equipment. Justin is also smiling because, as the article says:

Although the research environment in which he works is highly complex, systems administrator Justin King has an uncomplicated goal for his infrastructure: “To simplify it as much as possible from an end user standpoint.”

And he did it with HQ. Check him out:
Justin King, Baylor

So now my question is, who do I get to see next? Send me your cool user photo and I’ll post it on the blog. I’ll be happy to meet you!
