Nicholas Negroponte gives a TED talk about the first two years of the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) project.

Even in it’s infancy it has created and made use of some truly amazing innovations:

  • runs on less than 2W of manually rechargeable power
  • powerful mesh networking capabilities
  • dual mode display (works in direct sunlight)
  • open source Flash player
  • addictive/intuitive UI (easy as a game controller, instantly view the source for any app)
  • give one, get one

The whole idea is completely powered by community and the democracy of technology. Plus, it’s created a commercial spin off for the manufacturer, and the next version looks like an iPhone sammich. Mmmmmm MM!
