Communities Migration FAQ
Hyperic Community Migration Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
On January 31st, 2012 at 6pm PST, we will migrate the independent Hyperic Forums over to the overall VMware Communities. Once complete, this will offer Hyperic users a single place to get all your questions answered about application management, software development and virtualization. With over 1.2 million community members, Hyperic users will have better access to meet online with peers to collaborate and solve problems, find sample code, SDKs, and APIs to help with all their development needs.
1. Why are you merging Hyperic’s community forum with the VMware community forum? This migration is an important move to create a ‘one-stop-shop’ for all your needs across all products supported by VMware. The VMware Communities offer you a single place to get all your questions answered about systems management, software development and virtualization. With over 1.2 million community members, you will have better access to meet online with your peers and find solutions, sample code, SDKs, and APIs to help with all your development needs.
2. What will happen to the Hyperic Forums? Once the migration begins, the forums will become read-only and remain so throughout the migration. Migration will take several days, after which all accounts, forum topics, messages, threads, attachments and content of the Hyperic Forums will be moved over intact. Existing users will be notified their account has moved, and the Hyperic Forums will be redirected to the VMware Communities site.
3. What happens to the old posts and answers? All posts and answers will be migrated over to the new VMware Communities Hyperic forum. Every post in the old forum will redirect to the new location.
4. When will the migration take place? The migration will happen on January 31st, 2012 at 6pm PST. The process will take several days.
5. How will the migration take place? All user accounts, forum topics and messages will be imported into the new Hyperic VMware Communities. Accounts will be matched by email address provided in the Hyperic Forum user account with the email address in the VMware Communities. If no user exists, a new user will be created and the user will receive an email inviting them to login.
6. Forums may be down for several days, how should I get community support? For the few days while the forums are down, existing forums account users are invited to call VMware Customer Support to address questions normally answered by the forums.
7. What do I need to do to maintain my user history and status? Nothing. All user history will be moved over as part of the migration automatically.
8. What happens if my email addresses don’t match across both accounts? Accounts will be matched up by email address. If you have an existing VMware Communities account that does not have the same email address as your existing Hyperic Forums account, you may end up with two accounts. To merge them, please call customer support after the migration.
9. After the transition, will you keep the Community Rewards Program? Yes, your existing Community Reward points will be migrated to the VMware Communities. However, the levels and how points are accumulated will move to the standard VMware Communites rewards system. For more information on how to see your levels and accumulate points, see the VMware Communities FAQ.
10. Hyperic forums were divided into several categories, is this familiar organization going to be retained? Yes, we will keep the same structure as the current Hyperic Forums. For instance, under the Hyperic User Forums there will still be a sub-forum for Hyperic Bugs Forum. All of the Hyperic forums will be placed under a Hyperic VMware Community, where users can also post at the top level.
11. I already have a VMware Community account, do I need to create another one? No, your VMware Communities account will be a single-sign-on account for all VMware Communities.
12. Where do I report issues resulting from the migration? Once the migration is complete, if there are any issues with your account history or rewards level, please contact VMware Customer Support. Any user, regardless of support contract entitlements, including open source users may call customer support about their VMware Communities account.
