San Francisco CA, March 26 2008 – Building on the scalability upgrades of its last release, open source web infrastructure management software provider, Hyperic Inc., today unveiled the latest version of its flagship software, Hyperic HQ. The new release centers on a new plugin framework, HQU. HQU provides easy access for operations to script and automate tasks so that they can better organize and manage their infrastructure with zero downtime to business-critical Hyperic HQ monitoring and management services.
Hyperic's new HQU plugin framework empowers web operations teams to deliver a "perfect fit" systems management strategy for high-growth web environments. Written in Groovy, HQU's modular design enables plugins to be easily shared and added to live Hyperic HQ environments without stopping or restarting the HQ server. This saves significant time and resources and allows users to evolve their approach over time.
Hyperic HQU plugins can be applied in three ways. Each application is fully documented, and useful examples are available on the Hyperic community HyperFORGE. Key applications include:
"85% of our customers update their technology weekly to keep up with changing demands. As a result, their environments are so highly customized and prone to change that they are extraordinarily difficult to manage" said Paul Melmon, SVP of engineering at Hyperic. "Our mission is to help this new generation of online companies overcome this challenge. Using the new HQU framework, users can deploy a 'zero touch' management strategy that perfectly fits their custom environment - tailoring their deployment and automating tasks so they can solve problems fast, even when operating at extraordinary scale."
One example of this new breed of company is managed hosting provider Contegix, also announced today. Contegix provides high-level managed hosting solutions for enterprise applications. The company is using Hyperic HQ Enterprise to manage and monitor its entire physical infrastructure.
"With an extremely diverse infrastructure, meteoric customer demand and some of the most demanding SLAs in the business, we were facing an enormous management challenge," said Matthew Porter, CEO of Contegix. "Hyperic was the only solution that made sense for us. The new HQU plugin framework will make it even easier to manage such a complex environment with a scale like ours. We plan to use it aggressively to automate tasks and simplify finding and fixing problems so we can better serve our users."
Plugins of all sorts can be easily accessed at the Hyperic Community's HyperFORGE. While the majority of the HQU plugins will be available exclusively through the HyperFORGE, some will be bundled directly in the HQ application. Currently bundled plugins include HQ Health, which enables users to track the performance of the HQ server in real-time; Nagios Integration, which allows Nagios admins to incorporate their Nagios managed resources directly into HQ; and the OpenNMS inventory and alert integration among others.
The new HQU framework lays the foundation for Hyperic to incrementally deploy new functionality and foster deeper community interaction by allowing users to easily share custom enhancements and automation with other users.
