PARIS – Open Source Solutions Linux Conference – January 30, 2008 – Hyperic Inc., a leading open source web infrastructure management software provider, today announced the new version of its flagship product, Hyperic HQ 3.2. Capable of monitoring 1.5 million metrics per minute using MySQL as a backend database, the new software provides operations teams worldwide with the most scalable web infrastructure management solution available.
Hyperic 3.2 adds several new capabilities that help reduce the workload of operations teams charged with managing high-growth web environments. New features include widespread scalability enhancements; support for MySQL as a backend database to Hyperic; cross-platform diagnostic tools that dramatically reduce the steps needed to resolve performance problems; and a new feature set that allows Nagios administrators to automatically integrate and extend their current deployments using Hyperic.
“Our customers manage thousands of servers as the core to their web operations. For every second of downtime, they stand to lose either users or revenue,” said Javier Soltero, CEO of Hyperic. “At Hyperic we are singularly focused on helping today’s new generation of online companies maximize the availability of their large-scale web infrastructures. The new features in Hyperic 3.2 help achieve this by giving operations teams the tools they need to solve problems fast, even when they are operating at extreme scale.”
Today’s biggest transaction volumes are happening at Web companies. To help operations teams meet this challenge, Hyperic HQ 3.2 was engineered to improve web infrastructure monitoring and management at scale. With customers including Facebook and Google, MySQL is the defacto database of choice for companies developing web applications, and high volume support for MySQL as the database of record is a critical addition to the new Hyperic release. A formal benchmark will be announced by Hyperic and MySQL in February.
"Our customers are creating among the highest-volume business-critical web applications in existence,” said Zack Urlocker, executive vice president of products at MySQL AB. “For successful Web applications, traffic can be unpredictable and have exponential growth. In those situations, you need to be able to not only monitor all components of your application stack, but quickly respond if things go wrong. Hyperic simplifies the monitoring and management of web-based applications and enables companies to have massively scalable web infrastructure. We're proud that Hyperic has chosen MySQL as part of their solution.”
To streamline the management of large, growing web infrastructures, Hyperic 3.2 places diagnostic and reporting tools directly into the user interface, reducing the number of these tools typically needed to solve a problem and saving valuable time. With Hyperic HQ 3.2, administrators can remotely query detailed performance information overlooked by most monitoring tools. These details can be retrieved in real-time across platforms monitored by Hyperic—including RHEL, Fedora and Solaris, Windows, Mac and more. Additionally, the Hyperic Reports Library was expanded to include six new enterprise reports.
Hyperic 3.2 also includes features to help users of the popular open source Nagios framework expand their deployments. The new integration tools provide a seamless interlock between Hyperic HQ and Nagios. Using Hyperic, Nagios administrators can run Nagios plugins natively and view Nagios Services, Hosts, and Statuses directly in the Hyperic HQ user interface. Additionally, these users are able to simultaneously extended performance data capture, charting, diagnostics, control and reporting available natively in Hyperic HQ for over 65 different technologies.
Hyperic HQ has been recognized with several industry awards, including LinuxWorld’s “Best Systems Management Tool for 2007,” and more recently, Sourceforge.net’s Project of the Month for January 2008 and Enterprise Management Associate’s First Team All-Star award for “Best Open Source Systems Management.”
