Hyperic Announces Winner of "Data Center of the Future" Essay Challenge

Kent State Sophomore Wins $5,000 Scholarship Award

LINUXWORLD - SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., - August 8, 2007 - Hyperic Inc., the leader in multi-platform, open source systems management, today announced the winner of its "Next Generation Data Center" essay contest. Wayne Koesling, a sophomore studying IT management at Kent State University won for his essay, "Managing the Next Generation Data Center."

Koesling's essay was selected from hundreds of submissions for most clearly illustrating the IT systems management requirements for the data center of the future. For his case study, Koesling outlined a potential management scenario for a completely virtualized data center. Additionally, he described how to manage the impact created by VoIP, consumer and wireless devices, and a more distributed workforce. Koesling will be awarded $5,000 in education scholarship money for his winning entry.

"We received a strong response to the contest, and it was a tough decision. We awarded Wayne with the scholarship for clearly articulating how to take advantage of next generation technologies in a sustainable way," said Javier Soltero, CEO of Hyperic. "We believe that fresh ideas and different perspectives are critical to the process of technical innovation, and are heartened that tomorrow's IT community will include individuals like Wayne."

Koesling represents a growing segment of the IT population. A veteran IT professional, he has first-hand experience dealing with the chaos created by the industry's constant innovation and steady stream of new technologies and services. Koesling made his way back to the classroom after a 20-year hiatus to sharpen his skills and ensure he had the training needed to be successful in today's rapidly changing IT climate.

Open to all members of university-level IT departments, the purpose of the essay contest was to engage emerging IT experts and future system administrators in the development of next generation IT management tools and techniques.
