Bug Sniper Program

The purpose of the Bug Sniper Program is to engage the community to help improve software quality.

In an effort to engage the community early and ensure bugs are uncovered and documented, we have expanded our community management team and our points system to monitor and award community members points. Community members who identify and list bugs, fix bugs, or write new version specific HOWTOs will get extra points.

How Do I Participate?

When encountering an issue, research the issue to see if it is new to 3.2. Search the forums and JIRA for existing tickets.

If you find a new issue, enter it into the Bugs Forum. Be sure to include the build number, and be as specific as possible on how to repeat the condition you discovered. Include any error messages, stack traces, or logs that are applicable to your bug.

A community manager will double check to see if this is a duplicate bug, will attempt to recreate it, and will verify the bug with Hyperic QA. Once the bug is verified and a JIRA ticket is opened, the community manager will respond to the bug posting with the JIRA number and award points. The community manager will also mark the question as answered, as this bug will now be tracked in JIRA.

What Do I Get For My Effort?

First and foremost, you get a better Hyperic HQ product to manage all your web applications and infrastructure! Of course, we appreciate your individual contributions, so that is why we are awarding points.

Points in the community help you to achieve various levels of recognition. As power users rise in points, they will receive t-shirts, travel mugs and golf shirts, and even a custom Hyperic fleece!

Additionally to kick-start the work on this Bug Sniper Program, the first 50 people who create valid bugs will get a Hyperic Hero mouse pad.
